Who this is for

Start with your U.S. tax purpose.

An Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) is for someone who needs a U.S. federal taxpayer identification number but is not eligible for a Social Security number. We review your situation before recommending a Form W-7 application.

Good to know: An ITIN does not authorize work in the U.S. or change immigration status.

We can help you assess:

  • Why you need an ITIN for a federal tax filing or applicable exception
  • Whether this is a new application or a renewal
  • Which identity and foreign-status documents apply
  • Whether a tax return or exception documents must accompany Form W-7
Our process

Guidance at every step.

We help you understand the requirements, prepare the forms, and assemble the materials the IRS needs to review your request.

01

Initial review

Tell us your filing reason, timing, and whether you have applied before. We identify the likely path and scope.

02

Form W-7

We help prepare the application and determine whether a federal return or exception documentation is needed.

03

Document check

We review original or issuing-agency-certified documents and authenticate eligible items within CAA rules.

04

Submission

We assemble the required package for IRS processing and help address questions if the IRS follows up.

The IRS determines eligibility and issues the ITIN. No service provider can guarantee approval or an IRS processing time.

Documents and details

Know what to bring before you apply.

The right documents depend on who is applying and why. We explain the requirements for your case and review them with you before your application is submitted.

Please do not send passports, identity documents, or tax records through ordinary email. We will explain a secure way to provide documents when needed.

Originals or certified copies

IRS rules generally require originals or copies certified by the agency that issued them.

Different rules for dependents

CAAs can authenticate a dependent's passport and birth certificate; other dependent documents may need to go to the IRS as originals or issuing-agency-certified copies.

Return or exception documents

Most new applications accompany a federal tax return unless a specific IRS exception applies.

Common questions

Answers before you begin.

What is a CAA?

A Certifying Acceptance Agent is authorized by the IRS to help with ITIN applications and authenticate certain supporting documents under IRS rules.

Do I need to mail my passport?

A CAA may authenticate an eligible passport so the original does not need to be mailed in some cases. Rules vary, especially for dependents; we review your documents first.

Is a tax return required?

Generally, yes for a new ITIN application, unless an IRS exception applies. We assess which rule fits your circumstances.

Can you guarantee an ITIN?

No. The IRS reviews every application and decides whether to issue an ITIN. We help prepare a complete, accurate package.

Can I use an ITIN to work in the U.S.?

No. An ITIN is for federal tax purposes and does not provide work authorization or Social Security benefits.

Where can I check the official rules?

See the IRS Form W-7 instructions and the IRS Acceptance Agent Program.
